A large number of schools in South Africa lack computer skills training, facilities and technology resources that are essential to function in the digital age. Learners are being left behind without any basic ICT training and they have no way of equipping themselves to move into today’s working world.
Seeds of Africa has conducted a survey within our local community to better understand the barriers and needs related to computer accessibility in previously disadvantaged communities. We have identified a high school called St Ansgars in the Joe Slovo community to be our pilot project. This school is enthusiastic to offer CAT (Computer Applications Technology) as a subject choice for Grade 10 to 12. We have embarked on equipping this school with a fully functional computer room to enable them to empower the learners at the school with ICT skills.
Our vision is to roll this out to many more disadvantaged schools in the near future. Should you wish to partner with us in future projects to empower our youth through the provision of technology resources please contact Sally Viljoen on 011-7963005.
